Craft Shops - Decoupage

Klondyke have many craft shops located in their branches at Blackpool, Inverness, Carlisle and Lambton Park. Decoupage (or dÓ©coupage) is the art of decorating an object by gluing coloured paper cut outs onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, etc. Commonly an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cut outs from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers. Each layer is sealed with varnishes (often multiple coats) until the "stuck on" appearance disappears and the result looks like painting or inlay work. The traditional technique used 30-40 layers of varnish which were then sanded to a polished finish. This was known in 18th century England as The Art of Japanning after its presumed origins.

The are many resources available on the internet to give you ideas of what can be achieved, alternatively just enquire at any of our craft shops, we will be happy to provide information and advice for any of your craft projects.

We previously wrote an article about scrap book making, which is another item that can be constructed from crafts, and things you would normally throw away. Crafts and craft making in this day and age is such a great thing, with Ò recycling being the main focus of everything and the economic finiancial climate being as unpredicatable as it is, basing our efforts on craft making is saving both the enviroment by using resources we would normally discard and by helping keep costs down, so instead of throwing awaying we can now repair and modernise to suite or lives as they are now, to fit in better in our homes than on a scrap heap! But most of all, crafts and craft making is such a bond maker, it can bring an otherwise distant family closer and help create memorable fond moments as well as new age items and furniture.
