Proper maintenance will extend the life of the camera. Some things to employ as habits would be to always have the camera in it"s bag when it is not in use. Pull the batteries when not in use to avoid the drain on batteries even when it"s idle. Protect the camera from extremes of temperatures and moisture.

Lenses are a critical component of the digital camera. Make sure to clean the lenses regularly however, avoid "over cleaning" because some scratches could form on the lens or it may actually start to remove some of the coating that is on the lens.
