Have Fun At The Great American Dollhouse Museum
The museum is home to a miniature village that features various neighbourhoods, streets, and forests in a large landscape. The village is laid out in historical detail and represents the American lifestyle as it was in the early 1900s. It contains hundreds of antique and artisan-sculpted miniature residents that are historically-dressed to represent the era accurately. These miniature citizens seem lifelike as they interact with each other just like regular villagers do.Visitors to the museum can weave their way in and out of numerous alleys and avenues just as they would in a real town. They are able to look into the open backs of the homes and businesses to inspect and enjoy the decorations, people, and accessories. The village contains everything that you would expect to find in a real hamlet and has many items such as gypsy caravans, an orphanage, a hunting lodge, and several mansions. The museum also features an entire frontier town, which is an extensive, detailed, and dramatic replica of a Wild West settlement.                                      Â
The museum offers a lot more than excellent displays as it houses a large classroom that is used to hold workshops in miniature artistry, discussions, historical films, visiting storytellers, and other types of educational activities. It can host birthday parties and other special occasions. The classroom is also ideal as a meeting place as well as a lunchroom for visiting school groups.
Another very popular section of the museum is the playroom. This is a spacious, carpeted area that comes with a hands-on dollhouse village of its very own. This play village contains a wide and colourful variety of homes, shops, stables, barns, animals and dolls. Children who visit the playroom are free to safely furnish and rearrange the settings and play with houses and miniatures for as long as they please. The room also consists of comfortable chairs for adults who want to watch their children play, along with bathrooms with baby changing facilities.
The Great American Dollhouse Museum is ideal for school and civic groups as well as lovers of dollhouses and miniatures of all ages. There is a small entrance fee and the business is open from Tuesday to Saturday. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is also a gift shop on the premises that stocks a large selection of new, vintage, antique and artisan miniatures along with other traditional museum memorabilia including a variety of postcards and tee shirts. You can also buy books here to learn about the dollhouse and miniatures culture.
