Learn to Play Omaha Hi Low Poker

In this poker game, the player with the highest hand splits the pot with the player who has the lowest hand. Players receive four cards from the dealer and they use two of these cards to try to make a high hand and the other two cards to make a low hand. The low cards must be numbered eight or lower and the high cards must be numbered eight or higher. Aces can be played as both high and low cards.

At the beginning of play, the button is placed in front of the player who would be dealing the cards if there were no house dealer. This button moves to each player in turn at the end of each round. The card distribution and paying the blinds starts with the players to the left of the button in each round. The player to the immediate left of the button pays the big blind and the next player pays the small blind, which is half the amount of the big blind. The dealer shuffles the deck and then deals four cards face down to each player. Once the players look at their cards, they either decide to fold or bet on their hand. In their turn players can decide to raise this bet, and if the player placing the original bet wants to continue playing, he/she has to put the difference between the bets and the raise into the pot.

Once this round if betting is over, the dealer discards the top card on the desk and places three cards face up on the table. This is called the Flop. These are the Community cards and the players use these in combination with the cards they hold in their hands to try to make hi or low hands. They can combine any two of their cards with the three community cards. At this point players can decide to bet again or they can check, which means they are not betting nay money, but they can only do this if none of the players bet. If a player bets, then the rest of the players have to match this bet in order to stay in the game.

The dealer then turns over another card, called the Turn. Players now have four cards from which they can choose three to make a hand. Betting resumes after this card and then the dealer lays the final card face up, which is the River. This is the final play and after this the players lay out their cards to see which one has the high hand and which one has the low hand. It is possible for the same player to have both winning hands, in which case, he/she wins the full pot.
