Whitewings Rubber Band Powered Wright Flyer Model

It is on these kinds of days that we parents need to have projects ready to work with out children. And, as we think about the right kind of projects, we also want to do something which is both enjoyable and educational at the same time.

As a pilot I have always been interested in all things aviation, and aircraft model kits are no exception. I love to build them, and when I can find one that will even fly, so much the better!

Over the years I have been buying paper and foam model airplanes from a company called "Whitewings", named after the special Japanese paper the modesl are made from. It is sturdy paper, easily formed and brilliantly white in color.

But I have also discovered their line of rubber band powered airplanes, and among those is the Giant Wright Flyer! This is an authentic replcia of the original Wright Flyer, and once assembled can actually be flown. Many times it will fly over 300 feet!

It takes a little over 2 hours to assemble this model which is made out of plastic and foam, and the detailing, construction and flight characteristics are very good. The instructions are good, but if you are not careful you will fnd yourself going back to fix something.

No problem, though, because there are no special tools, glue or anything else necessary for assembly. Once you have put it together, it may take a little time to get the control surfaces rigged properly for flight, but once you do you and your child will be able to recreate a little piece of aviation history.

The best place I have found to get this model is at the Giant Wright Flyer Rubber Band Powered Model page at The Paper Airplane Company.

If you are looking for a special project for you and your kids, then this is one which is fun, interactive and educational, all at the same time. Be sure and take a look at this Whitewings Giant Wright Flyer today!
